Using an Energy Pedestal the Right Way
1. Inspect the Pedestal. Look over the unit for cracks, frayed wires, or anything that seems out of place. Make sure the outlets are clean; even a tiny bit of dirt can cause problems.
2. Turn Off the Breaker. Before you plug anything in, flip the pedestal’s breaker to the off position. This small step protects you from sudden electrical surges.
3. Connect Your Equipment. Insert your RV, tool, or appliance into the correct outlet-30-amp for smaller loads, 50-amp for bigger ones. For extra peace of mind, plug in a surge protector or an EMS, like the one you might use at home.
4. Turn On the Breaker. After everything is firmly plugged in, switch the breaker back on to let power flow.
5. Monitor Usage. Keep an eye on the voltage display if the pedestal has one, and make sure the cables stay snug. Never draw more power than the pedestal is rated for; doing so can trip the breaker or damage the unit.
6. Disconnect Safely. When you’re finished, turn off the breaker again before pulling out any plugs. This prevents little sparks, or arcing, that can wear out the socket.
